JenMoon's Birthday, 2002

For JenMoon's birthday present in 2002, I recorded these two tracks with Paul Fly engineering. The first track is a classic song by the Monkees entitled "You Just May Be The One," written by Michael Nesmith. In 2000, Rhino Handmade released an album called Headquarters Sessions, which included a version of the song in which the Monkees themselves have laid in all the instrumentation, but no vocals have yet been added, thus giving me the opportunity to add my own vocals to create this version. The second track utilizes the text from a classic children's book, Goodnight Moon by Margaret Wise Brown, one of Jen's favorites. I set the text to music, creating the a cappella jazz lullabye presented here.

Jen was presented these tracks at a surprise birthday party we threw for her. I dragged her out into the hallway, pulled out a CD walkman and two sets of headphones. When "Goodnight Moon" came on, I pulled out the actual storybook and turned the pages for her in time with the song - the recommended way to listen to it, if you can manage it. Needless to say, the other boys were a little irritated with me that year for coming up with such an impressive birthday present.
